Getting Into Coffee

I’ve always appreciated a good cup of coffee, but never had enough of a motivation to create a setup that allows me to brew really good coffee at home. My most used brewing method over many years has been the French Press, but even when using pricier pre-ground coffee, I’ve grown to find the taste of it entirely uninspiring. Hence, I’m taking a first real step to tune a coffee setup for home brewing that tastes good, provides satisfying and tactile brewing experience and importantly, is aesthetically pleasing.

Most importantly, I’ve decided to get a proper grinder that is suitable for all brewing methods other than espresso. I’ve gone with the Fellow Ode Brew Gen2 grinder. Luckily, a local coffee store had it in stock.

Secondly, I’m trying a new brewing method, that perhaps to no surprise will be pour-over coffee. From the 3 most popular brewers Hario V60, Kalita Wave and Chemex, I’ve decided to go with the Chemex.

And finally, a gooseneck kettle also from Fellow, their Stagg EKG in matte black and walnut to finish the set.

Aside from all recommendations to watch James Hoffman’s coffee guides, I’ve found a video from this gentleman to be a great introduction to the various types of brewing methods available.
